Isuzu Towing Lights Adaptor
Introduction
There is a requirement within the Commercial Vehicle Industry for vehicles equipped with 24 volt electrical systems to tow trailers that have 12 volt lighting circuits. This application requires the vehicle to be fitted with an adaptor to convert all of the 24 volt lighting circuits to 12 volt operation.
Bridgwater Electronics were approached by Isuzu Truck (UK) Ltd who had a requirement for such an adaptor.
Project specification
The requirement was for a waterproof ‘Plug and Play’ adaptor that could be easily mounted on the vehicle chassis close to the rear lights wiring. An additional requirement was for a dashboard-mounted warning light to confirm that the direction indicator lights on the trailer were functioning correctly.
Results & developments
Bridgwater Electronics utilised solid-state electronic switching devices to control the trailer lights and to give a bulb-failure indication should the direction indicator bulbs fail. The electronic circuit was housed in a rugged anodised aluminium case with all cable entry and exit points being fully waterproof.
The wiring harnesses were designed to plug-in to the existing vehicle wiring loom. The adaptor is now in production – manufactured in the UK.
