CANM8-TALK
Installation & Operation: Mercedes Vehicles

All Mercedes vehicles will require a dedicated mute interface loom in order to supply the Bluetooth kit audio output via the vehicles front speakers. Alternatively, please contact your supplier regarding the CANM8-TALKPlus & TALK2 interfaces, which feature audio muting as standard.

  1. Install the mute loom as per the manufacturers instructions.
  2. Locate a convenient point to connect the TALK interface CAN wires to the Mercedes Interior CAN Bus. The Interior CAN Bus is a twisted pair of wires which are colored : BROWN / RED = CAN HI  &  BROWN = CAN LO.

The wires are commonly located at the rear of the audio unit on non amplified systems and on amplified systems, they can be found at the Audio Gateway unit in the boot of the vehicle (the navigation frame swivels open to allow access).

The CAN wires are also generally located in looms beneath the drivers side dash and also in the front to rear looms inside the plastic loom channels under the carpets. On some Mercedes models, there may be a CAN junction rail under the drivers side dash. Any pair of wires at the junction can be used.

On older vehicle models, the colors of the CAN wires may be BLACK/WHITE = CAN HI & BLACK = CAN LO, located in the 10 way ISO plug at the rear of the audio unit.

DO NOT CONNECT THE TALK INTERFACE TO ANY OTHER COLOURED CAN WIRES AS THESE WILL NOT CARRY THE APPROPRIATE INFORMATION.

Connect the other TALK interface wires as per the main TALK installation guide.

Operation

When the TALK interface is powered for the first time, the red LED at the side of the interface loom plug will illuminate as soon as CAN activity is detected. With the vehicle ignition switched on, press any of the phone control or volume buttons on the right hand side of the steering wheel. The LED should now begin to flash repeatedly, indicating the vehicle type has been recognized by the TALK interface. If the Led does not respond as expected, please refer to the ‘Common Problems’ section of the main  TALK installation guide.

IMPORTANT : On some Mercedes models the phone ‘Call’ buttons may not function. The vehicle will need to visit a Mercedes dealer in order that functionality can be activated.
